Congenital Malformations Registry
The Region of Apulia has set up the Congenital Malformations Registry to collect and analyse data on congenital malformations detected in persons born in Apulia and in pregnancy terminations of residents in the region, in order to carry out evaluation, surveillance, prevention, planning and research activities.
The aim of the Register of congenital malformations is to collect and analyse data on malformations detected in people born in Apulia residents in order to contribute to the spatial and temporal surveillance of the phenomenon and to produce epidemiological studies on the association between environmental exposures and health outcomes.
The predominant activity of the register is to detect and codify all the cases of malformations detected in births resident in Apulia and detected in the interruptions of pregnancy of residents in the region; after the first phase, the analysis of these data and the verification of their quality is carried out. Given the availability of the first four years of data (2015-2018), it was possible to contribute to the drafting of the VI Report of the Sentieri Study, in which health outcomes in Italian Sites of National Interest (SIN) were analysed.
The register was established in 2013 by Regional Council Resolution No. 1409.
