THCS - Second Call for Proposals Launched.

Within the Horizon Europe program, as part of the European Partnership THCS, A.Re.S.S. is launching, together with 64 other European partners, the 2nd call aimed at transitioning to better health and care systems, called "Innovate to Prevent: Personalized Prevention in Health and Care Services", with the aim of:

  • support the implementation of innovative models of health and care that are person-centered and address prevention strategies, with the key help of existing and emerging information and digital technologies and services, as well as existing and emerging data;
  • improve dimensions of the health and welfare system, such as quality, efficiency, equity and sustainability;
  • improving the quality of preventive services to lead to improved quality of life for citizens and patients, as well as reducing the burden and cost of all health and welfare services.

Project proposals should take advantage of the diversity of disease prevention service delivery modes in Europe and provide a clear view of the scalability of innovations in different countries and health and care settings; this includes the opportunity for mutual learning.
Proposals, in addition, should consider contextual barriers and facilitators related to the different roles, tasks, training, and competencies of health and care professionals, the involvement of citizens, patients, and caregivers, and the contribution of other key stakeholders.Finally, potential proposals should also address challenges in the adoption of IT tools and digital technologies in health and care ecosystems, particularly contingent needs to overcome legal, financial, cultural, technological, and educational barriers, as well as barriers to adaptation to the local context by stakeholders.

Special attention is paid to prevention, as defined by the European Commission in the web document "Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Knowledge Gateway" (https://knowledge4policy.ec.europa.eu/health-promotion-knowledge-gateway/promotion-prevention_en):

  • secondary: that is, prevention associated with early detection of a disease that can lead to a greater chance of positive health outcomes;
  • tertiary: that is, those associated with services that promote a better quality of life for those living with the disease, and
  • quaternary: that is, one related to avoiding overmedicalization of patients, protecting them from unnecessary interventions, and suggesting ethical alternatives.
